Soldered Charm Class & Red Shed Saturday Sale Sneak Peek

Thursday nights are for "Running With Scissors" .....Art Classes, that is, at the Red Shed. In last night's class we made these beautiful beveled charms adorned with chains to make them "jewelry' for yourself or your walls.

Special guest student was Donna from Curious Goods Antiques in Malakoff, TX. I was so excited for her to come to the Red Shed. I have known her and shopped her cute store for a few years now, and have been dying for her to come visit ME! So that's Donna on the left, Valarie (me), and Michele Jones.

We gathered around Jeanie and listened to our instructions.......She always assures us that "we, too can make art"....but I am seeing some looks of uncertainty..........

Jeanie always makes soldering look SO EASY!..........

Every one gets to work, with lots of personal instruction from Jeanie and Michele......

I think Donna has it down......

Is it possible? Did we create art? Judge for yourself as you see the fabulous finished pieces that went out the door to their new homes!

Donna used a CG for Curious Goods, cut from a vintage dictionary....

Though everything is provided in all of our Altered Art & Soldering classes, for each person to go home with a completed piece, we love to encourage people to personalize their art. This piece was in remembrance of the artist's grandmother who was named "Birdie". The bauble attached to the bottom was one of grandmother's old earrings.

Please leave a comment and let our ladies know what you think about their great talents and creativity!
Only 8 days until the RED SHED Saturday Sale. We are so excited for this sale. We have found just some absolutely fabulous, wonderful and unique pieces. Really some of the best we have had. Here is one little sneak peek.

These angel wings have been my pet project the last few weeks. I have made each one by hand, casting, painting, and antiquing. On the back is a loop for hanging and a decoupaged a page from a vintage book called "Angelic Wisdom". Each page is numbered and has a different message about heaven, and each piece is a little different, since they are made one by one. These look just as fabulous on a wall as they do leaning on a shelf.
Of course, we had to put them on a velveteen rabbit......but that's just us.
The Red Shed will be closed all next week as we get ready for the Sale next Saturday. But LUCKY YOU! While the shop will be closed, we are going to have a few unique items on Blog Sale. These will be items that are unique, are better described in detail, and are shippable. So if you have always wanted to Shop at the Red Shed.....Now is your chance! Stay tuned!

Lazy (Red Shed) Girl's Christmas Decor

The sum, total of My Outside Decorating.........
Two Wreaths.........
Our friend, designer GiGi Ewbank, starts decorating for Christmas the day after Halloween (Maybe she will bless us with some photos...that's another post). She has 16 Christmas trees gracing every room of her house and decorates NON STOP for 10 days! I am not GiGi.

I'm also not Michele M. who normally spends her Christmas out of town, so her decorating usually consists of whatever tree and ornaments she finds at a garage sale before Christmas, then she puts the whole thing in a trash sack the day after Christmas and out it goes.

I live in a little yellow cottage in the country. "Little" being the operative word. The interior is true to the Shabby Cottage style of the Red Shed, but I am not a decorator either. The walls of the kitchen and living room are a light yellow and usually most of the furnishings are in whites and pinks. When Christmas comes (I wait until the day after Thanksgiving). I swap out some of the pink for RED. It feels warmer...and I usually let it stay until Valentines Day.
So here is my simple swap out, with an emphasis on SIMPLE....

I only decorate the kitchen and living room. In the kitchen, first the normally bare floor gets a rug with some Reds.......

The comforter on the white slipcovered couch in the kitchen is flipped over to look like snowflakes...

Probably the oddest thing I do is I have this shelf that holds flea market paintings of pinkish roses and gardenias.......I bring out another set of paintings in reds and switch out the whole shelf..

This is the most fabulous picture. Michele M and I found it at a Goodwill for $8.00. It has lived at her house and at the shop, and now my house. It has been framed, but I love it unframed. We have been offered lots of money for it, but we just can't part with it!

Pink wreaths come down, Red wreaths go up................

In the living room, I mostly add reds with fruit and greens from my yard....

(I'm still looking for a fabulous red rose, vintage nativity or Santa picture to switch this one out...any suggestions?)

The corner cupboard gets some pomegranates, apples, and cranberries.......

A few finishing touches.......

I've been experimenting, making these vintage crystal fan pulls. I love em! And they will be available (in various styles) at our Christmas sale on Dec. 6th.

And finally the tree. We always get a live one, which I let my DH pick out. I think he got a little confused on the height of our ceilings, because we had to chop a bit of the top and the bottom to get the angel on!Decorated with vintage crystal icicles, crystals, and of course, roses.
Hope you had a great and Thankful weekend!
Don't forget the White Christmas Sale at the Red Shed on December 6th.....Preview to follow...

Cindy's Camp ~ Cottage meets Kitsch ~ A Loft Becomes a Home

Many times our customers will come back to the shop, just beaming because they found a perfect piece at the Red Shed. They will say "Oh, its just wonderful, you should see it!" We always ask them to send us some photos, but life is busy, and time is so short. Well, our dear new friend Cindy Camp, did us one better and invited us to see her new loft apartment where many Red Shed treasures have gone to live.
Cindy and her husband Mike just moved to Grapevine a few months ago, and shortly after, Cindy found out she needed surgery. She realized that friends and family would be visiting and staying in their new loft. As she put it " It went from bare walls, to what you see in about two weeks" .
Well, we can't imagine what Cindy could do if she had a few months! She is just one of those designers who has a great eye for purchases and a whimsical sense of style. She purchased many of the items shown online, sight unseen! We hope you enjoy the tour as much as we did.
The den/music room has the saying from the first photo on the wall, made from this entire set of marquee letters.
Love the B & W photos of their sons.
The entire apartment has high, high ceilings with exposed duct work. All the better to show collections above the kitchen cabinets.
Love the pumpkins on a vintage plant stand, perfect in the middle of her distressed black farm table.
Adorable vignettes around every corner,
This is my absolute favorite. How many of us would have passed on this fabulously kitschy red lamp, yet it looks to perfect mixed with a vintage needlepoint and deer antlers!

Oh the bedroom, we could have curled right up for a nap, if it weren't for all of the interesting collections in every corner.

Interesting objects throughout the house, kept us on our toes.

And the living room....cowboy hats on Audubon prints
Wonderful farm cabinet.........
and I almost had a heart attack when I saw this periodic table in FRENCH! Weighs almost 300 pounds and her DH hung it while she was in the hospital (and only got a "little bit" of blood on the wall)!
And finally, Who can tell me what Cindy's coffee table was in it's previous life?
